On Thursday I had the opportunity to do a 1 rep max with a friend. As I normally lift alone its been a while since I’ve done a max test. I was somewhat nervous about maxing out but it was a good opportunity to see what I had gained back since my break over the winter. So here are the numbers, not as good as they could have been, but not too bad either.
1 Rep Max Test
Bench – 100 lbs
Rows – 125 lbs
Squats – 170 lbs
My goals as I stated previously :
Bench: body-weight
Row: body-weight
Squat: 1.5 x body-weight
This gives me 30lbs to gain for bench and squat, and 5lbs to gain for rows. I found the imbalance between my chest and back strength to be particularly interesting. In my experience, most people are significantly stronger on their bench than row. I am going to to have to focus on both flexibility and and strengthening my chest in order to improve my balance between the two groups.
